The Town Council is responsible for many of the Parks, Open spaces and Recreation grounds in Lymington and Pennington. The Parks team look after all the planting, mowing a general maintenance.
Woodside Park
Covers an area of 20 hectares. There are 10 hectares of sports pitches that are used for rugby, football, cricket, tennis and croquet. There is a recent skate park, which has proved very popular and well used by younger people. The sports pavilion was improved and updated in 2016 and compliments the sports and recreation at Woodside.
Adjacent to the playing fields, covering 2.8 ha, is a formal gardens known as Woodside Gardens. Bequeathed to the people of Lymington by Colonel Henry Douglas Rooke in 1925 for the purposes of recreation, the beautiful gardens add to the ambience and stunning nature of the site.
An enclosed children’s play area is located to the west of the formal gardens.
To the east of the site is a 6 hectare area of grassland SINC, part of the area is fenced off with access for walkers through gates. At times horses are grazed on the fenced grassland.
Tarmac footpaths run through the park with mown paths running through the grassland. There are several access points to the park, 2 vehicular and 6 pedestrian. The main car parks are located off Ridgeway Lane and Rookes Lane.
Bath Road recreational ground
Situated between the Berthon Marina and Royal Lymington Yacht Club, this is an attractive site used by local residents and tourists, it is an area used for recreational use, it has good footpath links forming part of the Coastal walk as well as offering a picturesque place for picnics with an excellent view of the riverbanks and coastline.
The site includes a play area, pond and a Band Stand which hosts performances in the summer as well as many different events including the introduction of The Lymington Seafood Festival in the summer of 2017 which proved to be hugely popular.
Pennington Common
A SSSI, is a small fragment of the New Forest now isolated in the sub-urban landscape on the western edges of Lymington and Pennington. Located within the New Forest National Park it covers an area of 11 ha.
The common has a mixture of woodland, heath and grassland. It has several statutory landscape designations that are designed to conserve and enhance its unique habitat and species.
There is a network of footpaths linking the Common helping to connect Upper Pennington to the Town. A recently refurbished enclosed playground is located to the south east of the Common.
Several events are held on Pennington Common throughout the year including a Donkey Derby.
